    Description :
Chiseled gilt bronze and antique patina, iron.

This pair of rare andirons consists of a tomb-like base supported by four detached feet with scrolls and foliage bearing a lion standing on a heraldic crest.
There are two escutcheons per fire decorated with the motif of marquetry to the Queen.
This type of chenet was in vogue at the beginning of the eighteenth century, there was a model with prancing horses (the great bronze maker Caffieri participated in their design), and this model with lions, on a base in identical tomb.
Several are known, in the castle of Lochnich in Great Britain, in the museums of Bavaria (formerly in the apartments of the Emperor in the castle of Nymphenburg) ...
The dating is confirmed by the characteristic assembly of the time. Four-lobed nuts, large notches for marking the pieces.
Recent log rods of good workmanship have replaced the old ones which deteriorate with use
    ( 40 cm).
