Napoleon III-style fireplace screen with a discreet shelf – 19th century

Napoleon III Fireplace Screen with Hidden Shelf – 19th Century

Elegant Napoleon III fireplace screen with a hidden mahogany shelf, dating from the second half of the 19th century. This ingenious piece combines decorative appeal with practicality thanks to its retractable side shelf, which allows you to set down a book, a sewing project, or a cup of tea while enjoying the warmth of the fireplace.

The upper panel, with its flowing shape, is upholstered in a beautiful fabric featuring a polychrome floral pattern on a blue background, framed by a braided trim. This upholstery adds a warm and refined touch, harmonizing perfectly with the wood’s beautiful patina.
The sliding shelf on the front, discreetly integrated into the structure, showcases the full range of 19th-century English cabinetmaking expertise. The piece rests on a base with glides connected by a crossbar, ensuring excellent stability. An elegant tassel suspended beneath the shelf completes the charm of this unusual piece.
Both decorative and functional, this fireplace screen will naturally find its place in a living room, a library, or next to an antique fireplace.
