Gien earthenware inkwell with Renaissance decoration, 1870–1875

Created by the artisan painters and earthenware makers at the Gien factory (Loiret, France), this inkwell—featuring a Baroque arabesque design and foliage motifs—is entirely hand-painted.

The Gien factory is an internationally renowned institution in the world of French earthenware and tableware. It was founded in 1821 by the English industrialist Thomas Edme Hulm, with the ambition of creating earthenware using French techniques in an English style.

This rarer model, known as “Renaissance,” was produced between 1870 and 1875 and features decorative motifs inspired by the Baroque styles of the Ancien Régime and the royal courts of Central and Southern Europe.

Fast and careful shipping to France, Europe, and worldwide.
