Very fine and large inkwell in chiseled and gilded bronze and Maurin green marble decorated with an Imperial Eagle and double cups. 19th century Napoleon III period. Signed by the sculptor Emile Pinèdo. (globe)

The Base: The structure rests on an elegant rectangular base with concave sides, carved from a very fine solid Maurin green marble (from the Alps). Featuring two hollowed-out receptacles, it rests on four flattened marble ball feet. The whole exhibits a superb patina of use.

The Main Subject: A magnificent imperial eagle in the Empire style stands proudly outstretched. It grasps Jupiter's flaming thunderbolt in its talons and overlooks a globe surrounded by clouds, bearing the signature "Pinèdo".

The Inkwells: On either side of the eagle are the two inkwell cups. Rectangular in shape and richly crafted, they are topped with hinged lids, themselves surmounted by canted capitals. They are adorned with a sumptuous decoration of palmettes, laurel wreaths, cornucopias, and scrolls.

Ornaments: Finally, four bronze appliques, with rosette and palmette motifs, adorn the sides of the base.

Dimensions: Length 40 cm, Depth 26 cm, Height 23 cm, Private Collection (estate)

Condition: Complete in beautiful original condition, interior with glassware for the two inkwells. Antique object with minor chips and micro-cracks (typical for period marble).

    Sculptor: Beautiful antique cast iron.

Emile Pinèdo (1840-1916) was a French sculptor and medalist. It began as a bronze and furniture company, first run by his father around 1850, then by his son Emile in 1865 under the name "Émile Pinèdo fils" in the Marais district of Paris.

Émile Pinèdo also worked as a sculptor, achieving some success. He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1870, then participated in the Chicago Exposition in 1893, where he presented works that attracted public attention for their polychrome patinas, all of which were of excellent quality.
