This painter was specialized in portraits and not just any portraits. All the successive addresses occupied by his workshop are located in the most popular areas of Paris. From rue des Mathurins to rue d’Antin and rue Saint-Honoré, Ernest-Joseph Angelon Girard painted for a bourgeois and upscale clientele.

He who won his spurs with Isabey father and Ingres in particular, has no trouble selling his talents. Especially since he regularly participated in the Salons between 1837 and 1880.

Here he paints the portrait of a young woman styled and dressed in the French fashion of the 1850s-1860s. Her jewelry set seems to have been important because the gold necklace and earrings are meticulously represented.

Presented in a lovely gilt frame, this miniature portrait is in perfect condition.
