Pair of seditious miniatures painted on ivory. Bears the mention Henri and is dated September 29, 1807.
This pair of miniatures is attributed to Pierre Henry (HENRI) (Paris, 1760? -1822). Miniaturist painter and teacher. He studied in London around 1776 then worked in the West Indies before landing in 1788 in the United States where he made a career. Many of his miniatures are held in museums, including the Gibbes Museum in Charleston and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation in Virginia.
These works present a so-called characteristic seditious royalist decor with a weeping willow, a cherub mourning the fall of the Ancien Régime as well as a dog symbol of loyalty to the French monarchy.
