Lamaison Samsonwas founded in 1845 by Edme Samson, who set up in Paris as a decorator of white porcelain purchased from manufactures, notably Sèvres. While the workshop was already looking to export, the craze for antique styles launched the company's imitative vocation. As early as 1863, Edme associated his son Emile with the company and presented "Old Japan" style porcelain at the Universal Exhibition. From 1879, the workshops moved to a large plot of land in the Paris suburb of Montreuil, while the Paris store was used as a museum and exhibition space. Emile's son Léon joined the company in 1891. Under his impetus, the factory brought together 125 workers and decorators in an area of over 1,400 m2. The company experienced increasing difficulties in the 20th century, and especially after the war, when the taste for imitation was lost. It was finally bought out in 1964 and ceased production in 1980. The various parts, molds and models were dispersed, and the factory was demolished in 1988, leaving only three furnaces listed as historic monuments.
