Our flamboyant Gothic reliquary-ostensoir dates from the late 15th or early 16th century (circa 1480 -1520). French or Flemish work.
A liturgical element of great finesse, made of gilded brass or copper, engraved and adorned with the meticulous architectural details typical of the Flamboyant Gothic style: arches, pinnacles, openwork turrets and chased decoration.
The central chamber, open on four sides, features a lunule holder, a stylized crescent moon, typical of medieval monstrances used to display a consecrated host or relic.
It should be noted that the term "monstrance" applied equally to monstrances and reliquaries. Hosts were simultaneously associated with a relic in their presentation. The distinction was not made until a century later.
The shaft rests on a large carved central node and a richly worked base, ensuring balance and stability.
