A rare, superb Limoges porcelain trinket dish with white enamel on a deep blue kiln-fired background, dating from the mid-20th century, circa 1940–1960. Stylized decoration featuring a catfish accompanied by a starfish and seaweed, rendered in white reserve on a cobalt background in a highly graphic, Japanese-inspired style.
The quality of the design and technique could suggest it is by Marcel Chaufriasse, though it is unusual for the artist to depict this subject. Free-form and slightly hollow. Unsigned.

Length 20 cm, width 13 cm, height 3.5 cm. Very good overall condition, no cracks or chips; note numerous but light scratches from use on the background, more or less discreet depending on lighting. Approximately 300 g.
