A rare and interesting example of a Polish-style bed in molded and carved walnut, painted a soft green, a southern work from the late 18th century.

The bed rests on four fluted and reeded posts, topped with pine cones in a geometric style typical of regional production. The rails are decorated with fluting – a motif more commonly found in the Lyon and southern regions than in Parisian models – and the tapered feet terminate in tall, solid caps, significantly more elaborate than in Parisian pieces.

The circular canopy, upholstered in fabric, is supported by two curved wrought-iron arms, screwed to the headboard and the canopy: a rare and ingenious system that represents a provincial variation of the Polish bed. The canopy is also adjustable in height by plus or minus 5 cm.

This bed is complete, with its period slatted base retaining its original webbing (narrow webbing typical of Lyon). All of its assembly screws, curtain rods, and canopy support bar are also original. The woodwork is in perfect condition, and the entire piece is sound.

It comes from a property in the Lyon region, located about thirty minutes from Lyon, which has remained in the same family since the mid-18th century: it was therefore very likely made in the Lyon area for the ancestors of the previous owners.

The woodwork has been repainted in a slightly patinated vegetable garden green. The textiles have just been custom-made, using vintage fabrics from a high-quality English manufacturer (the company was acquired by Pierre Frey) in fresh colors (curtains, valance, and bedspread). A new 27 cm thick mattress is included with the bed.

Completely demountable, this bed can be placed sideways, against a wall, or in the middle of a room, as all its sides are finished and decorated.

    Dimensions:
    Length: 203 cm
    Width: 130 cm
Height of bedside table: 128 cm
Height of sleeping area: 64 cm
Adjustable overall height: 282 to 287 cm
    Sleeping area: 120 × 190 cm

A rare, complete piece with excellent provenance, exemplifying the southern interpretation of Louis XVI designs, possibly originating from a Lyon workshop.
