This mid-17th-century walnut sideboard opens with four doors and two drawers. A diamond-shaped marquetry motif is inlaid in the center of the door panels and at each end of the drawers, and is richly molded and adorned with flat-banded panels. The upper cornice, under which a frieze of leaves is carved, features an architectural pediment, while the central part includes a small niche that would have housed a statuette. The locks, keys and chased wrought-iron escutcheons are original. This piece of furniture has undergone a few minor restorations in the past, and a few pieces of wood have been removed. The panels have dried and are no longer very jointed, and the top board covering the top of the cabinet has been replaced by a chipboard panel (this part is not visible). In any case, this sideboard is in a good state of preservation given its great age (mid-seventeenth century), and selling it in the condition in which we acquired it enables us to sell it for a small price. It can be collected from our home in Sologne, 20 km south of Orléans, but we can arrange for a courier or quote for the desired destination.
Late 17th or early 18th century.
