This solid oak community chest features an iron-hinged lid held open by a so-called knee-latch.
The majority of community chests containing money, gold, jewelry, documents or other precious objects were locked by three separate locks, requiring the simultaneous presence of three people, each holding a key.
This trunk is no exception. It features three functional locks with wrought-iron escutcheons and three keys, all of which are authentic.
It stands on four straight legs.
This rudimentary but very solid chest will make a perfect piece of storage furniture, but it will also fulfill its primary function... the protection of valuables.
