Set of four "Gigognes" coffee tables by Emile Gallé, Nancy (1846-1904)
Trained in cabinetmaking from an early age, he didn't open his own cabinetmaking workshop until 1884, where he produced both small, inexpensive pieces of furniture and much more luxurious ensembles. He had a catalog of over 600 wood species, in particular oak, walnut, ash and plum.
He experimented extensively with marquetry techniques, exploiting the defects of certain species, and drew much of his inspiration from plant forms.
The tables presented are all signed; they were restored some ten years ago and are in perfect condition.
