Empire Console with Satyr Decor Italy circa 1810

    Description:

This small Empire-period console combines bold chromatic choices with Neoclassical refinement, typical of early 19th-century Italian workshops. Crafted from mahogany, it stands out with its carved satyr uprights, whose green lacquered legs add a unique touch to the piece.

The apron drawer, subtle yet functional, complements this primarily decorative piece. The gilding and sculpted detailsof the satyrs, inspired by Greco-Roman mythology, reflect the Empire’s fascination with antique themes.

Both theatrical and elegant, this console will fit seamlessly into an interior where history, art, and originality converge.

    Dimensions:

    Height: 36 ⅝ in (93 cm)

    Length: 37 ¾ in (96 cm)

    Depth: 16 ½ in (42 cm)

    Condition:

Fine condition, with original patina preserved.

Minor wear on the gilding, black and green lacquer, consistent with age.

The granite is in fine original condition.

    Cultural Reference:

The satyrs, mythological figures, symbolize creative freedom and the influence of Greco-Roman art in Italian Empire-era cabinetmaking. The use of emerald green for the satyrs’ legs reflects the chromatic boldness of Italian workshops of the time.
