Richly carved, openwork oak console table. Resting on four legs, this piece is distinguished by its abundant, fine and widely openwork carving.
The belt, with its abundance of apertures, features rocaille carvings and natural and floral motifs. In the center, a pomegranate bursts from a large openwork acanthus leaf, framed by slightly asymmetrical flowers.
At the base of the four generously curved legs, carved shells give way to scrolls and scrolls of flowers, ending in palmette motifs.
The carved brace connecting the four legs features an asymmetrical central nut adorned with a large shell and floral scrolls.
This console is representative of Rocaille ornamentation, particularly highlighted by the influence of the Marquise de Pompadour, and is topped with its original Aleppo Breche marble. This yellow-dominated marble, composed of colored fragments, comes from the Le Tholonet quarry, near Aix-en-Provence, and bears further witness to the Provencal provenance of this console, which until now has been kept by a large family from the Toulon region.
