André or Antoine CRIAERD, of Flemish origin, was the dean of a dynasty of Parisian master cabinetmakers.
Based in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, his fine, skillfully crafted furniture all dates back to the early 18th century. Towards the end of this period, he had business relationships with the renowned furniture manufacturer and dealer Pierre Migeon.
The Chaalis collections bequeathed to the Institute by Mrs. Edouard André include a tomb-shaped commode made of amaranth veneer, decorated with bronze and framed in dark wood.
