Elegant chest of drawers with two rows of drawers, typical of the transitional period between Louis XV and Louis XVI, circa 1780.
It subtly combines the curves still present in the curved legs and canted uprights with a geometric and structured decoration heralding the full Neoclassicism.

Crafted on an oak and softwood frame, it is veneered with rosewood, framed in kingwood, and enhanced with boxwood and composite purfling in light and dark wood, forming a stylized ribbon, an emblematic motif of the Louis XVI style.

The drawer fronts and front uprights are decorated with finely inlaid trompe-l'oeil triglyphs.
This highly characteristic decorative work is evidence of a regional workshop in Eastern France, similar to those active in Nancy or Strasbourg in the 18th century.

It is topped with its period white marble, lightly molded, perfectly proportioned to the frame. The bronze ornamentation is discreet and classic: handles on rosettes, medallion locks with ribboned bows, ornate apron, and sabots on the front legs.

The two drawers retain their original iron locks.

The chest of drawers is in good condition, serviced in our workshop, with some old restorations to the veneer, refinished varnish, and very well preserved deep and contrasting veneer colors.
