Pierre ROUSSEL (1723–1782)
He was admitted as a master cabinetmaker in 1745.
Thanks to his skills as a cabinetmaker and, above all, as an outstanding marquetry artist, he very quickly gained great renown.
In 1762, he became a juror for his guild.
By 1767, he was considered one of the greatest cabinetmakers of his time, a fact confirmed by the 1769 *Almanach d’indication générale ou du Vray Mérite*, which cited him as one of the leading cabinetmakers in Paris.
Highly regarded by his peers, he became a representative of the cabinetmakers’ guild in 1777, then its president two years later.
His prolific and varied body of work embraced all 18th-century styles with elegance and refinement...
Numerous Louis XV chests of drawers, veneered in rosewood or violetwood, are decorated with marquetry depicting flowers or ribbon bows.
The inventory of his goods, compiled after his death, attests to the prosperity of his business.
