Empire-Period Secretary Desk in Burl Walnut – Early 19th Century
A magnificent Empire-period secretary desk with a drop-leaf design, dating from the first half of the 19th century, featuring a stunning burl walnut front with particularly spectacular and symmetrical grain patterns.
This elegant piece stands out for the richness of its wood, the finesse of its design, and the quality of its interior layout.
The upper section is crowned by an overhanging molded cornice, surmounting a belt drawer discreetly integrated into the front.
The central flap, adorned with a brass keyhole, reveals a remarkably architecturally designed interior, composed of small columns with capitals and gilded brass rings.
The interior features several storage compartments, a series of small drawers, and niches, all highlighted by a background lined with burgundy red fabric.
The drop-down panel forms a generous writing surface lined with a dark green leather desk pad, accented by an elegant gold border.
The lower section comprises three stacked drawers, each fitted with brass pull knobs and keyholes. The piece rests on a solid base, framed by straight legs with consoles characteristic of furniture from this period.
This secretary desk captivates with its harmonious proportions, magnificent wood grain, and particularly decorative interior.
A truly beautiful collector’s piece, ideal for an office, living room, or library.
