A rare ladies' writing desk, known as a "billet doux" (sweet note), made of solid walnut, molded, carved, and inlaid on all sides. The upper section features a niche with an entablature and a butterfly-inlaid back. The cabinet opens with a flap decorated with a squirrel connected to a compartmentalized interior with a pen holder. The sides are decorated with a floral landscape. It rests on molded and curved legs. The front features two detached columns, sculpted in inverted twists, and a crosspiece with scrolled moldings. Original gilt bronze keys, hot stamping on the flap, and embossed leather on the writing desk. Exceptional cabinetmaking quality and superb patina!
