This very beautiful cylinder desk with curtain is the work of a talented cabinetmaker. The rosewood, satin and rosewood veneers rest on a frame of Hungarian oak; everything in this office is exceptional furniture.

Surprisingly, this piece of furniture was made from a chest of drawers (which we imagine jumping because perched on high feet). Branded "Charles-Guillaume WINCKELSEN", this secretary was created in the workshop of this renowned cabinetmaker and installed at 21 rue Saint-Louis in the Marais. We recognize in this office the strong influences of Guillaume Beneman (1750 - 1811) and Jean-Henri Riesner (1734 - 1806).

In a so-called “Greek” style, the curtain opens onto several drawers, a tray covered in leather marked with a small iron and a writing set with its inkwell. The whole is perfectly symmetrical and the whole decorated with gilded bronzes with gold crushed with a burnisher and very ornate. The two putti are the work of bronzier Joseph-Nicolas Langlois. Finally, note that Jacques Lafitte (President of the Council of Ministers of Louis-Philippe) ordered several pieces of furniture from Winckelsen precisely at the time when ours was made, which is in perfect condition.
