Rare ceremonial piece of furniture with numerous ivory marquetry, on a blackened pear tree background, typical of the Napoleon III period.
Its lower part opens with a glass door, with molded frame and rounded corners. It reveals an exhibition space furnished with a 34.5 cm shelf, placed on fixed battens. This leaf is fitted with a working lock and its key. The sides of this lower element are also glazed, and they have the same surrounds as those described above. The front angles of this piece of furniture are set back, giving way to two turned columns, embellished with high and low Ivory Rings. In addition to their aesthetic appearance, these uprights also serve as supports for the belt of this Showcase, and its tray with projecting edges. This lower part is embellished with ivory inlays, arranged in nets and Rinceaux.
We find, in greater number, similar decorations and other arabesques on the backsplash with the cut out contours of this piece of furniture. This upper element is provided with small ornamental cornices, and two shelves placed on solid brackets. We will especially remember the finesse of the characters as well as the Pelican present on this Backsplash. These Marquetries, which seem inspired by Italian Art of the 1850s, are the result of meticulous work and Quality.
The whole rests on a molded plinth, itself camped on four soberly crafted feet.
We will appreciate the Delicacy of this Apparent piece of furniture, Rare by its composition, which can in particular be harmonized in a "Black and White" decoration. The Contrast effect of this pair is successful: the Clear Marqueteries are highlighted by a deep black background.
