Beautiful small desk in carved and gilded walnut.

It opens with two drawers in the front, and has a fluted and twisted column base.

Abundant decoration of fleurons, diamond points, fluting, balusters, arches, and finials. Exquisite walnut with fine carving, signed Dufin.
Height of the top: 74 cm, under drawers: 64.5 cm, width: 99.5 cm, depth: 62.5 cm.

    Around 1880.
Honoré Dufin had been established as a cabinetmaker in Lyon since 1876, first at 8 rue Saint-Dominique, then at 4 rue des Célestins from 1880 to 1884, and finally at 49 rue de la République in 1892.
He received a Silver Medal at the 1872 Lyon Universal Exhibition and then a Bronze Medal at the 1878 Paris Universal Exhibition.
He contributed three plates to the 1884 edition of "Theoretical and Practical Treatise on Cabinetmaking after Roubo...": plate 55 Renaissance Buffet, plate 97 Henri IV Credenza, and plate 98 Small Buffet (François I).
Dufin had acquired an exceptional reputation in the manufacture of period furniture.

He placed particular importance on the meticulous care given to both the structure of the furniture and its decorative finish. Walnut was one of his favorite woods, allowing him to create both sturdy pieces and fine carvings with beautiful color. Passionate about sculpture, Honoré Dufin's will, in 1892, stipulated the creation of a prize to be awarded annually to the most deserving student of the Sculpture section at the Lyon School of Fine Arts.
The Fabius Frères Collection included two pieces of furniture by Dufin: a center table and a two-part cabinet, both in carved walnut (Sotheby's). Delivery available.
