Superb Louis XVI-style sloping desk, made in the XIXᵉ century, in rosewood and mahogany marquetry. Its flap is adorned with a delicate floral decoration in light and stained wood marquetry, framed by an oval rosewood medallion, itself surrounded by mahogany leaves arranged in butterfly wings. This refined ensemble is enhanced by a discreet inlaid fillet, elegantly underlining the contours of the décor.
The flap, fitted with a functional lock featuring a Louis XVI entrance topped with a ribbon, is accompanied by its finely chiselled key. It reveals a carefully designed interior, with two small drawers with lentil knobs on either side, topped by a large central niche. An ingenious concealed mechanism provides access to a secret cache, cleverly concealed beneath a sliding plate. The flap is upholstered in new black leather, decorated with a gold vignette and a central motif.
Three drawers are integrated into the cabinet's waistband, the front of which is decorated with a geometric marquetry of alternating rosewood and light wood in a vertical arrangement. The desk rests lightly on four sheathed legs, finished with brass sabots.
An exceptional piece, combining decorative refinement and ingenuity, a testament to the cabinetmaking skills of the XIXᵉ century.
