This small rosewood-veneered lady's desk is generously inlaid with small rosewood and rosewood lozenges.
These inlays are highlighted by lemon tree fillets and scalloped bronze baguettes.
The moving tops are highlighted at the edge by larger bronze moldings.
This piece of furniture opens into a stepped section with two small drawers featuring delicately chased bronze handles decorated with acanthus leaves.
The waistband also features a large compartmented drawer, forming a writing desk, fitted with an original functional lock with chased escutcheon and later key.
When open, the sliding shelf, embellished with a brass tab, is covered in later red leather with gilded vignettes, corner motifs and a central motif.
The ensemble rests on four curved whiplash legs with acanthus leaf drop, corner baguette and ending in bronze sabots.
This lady's desk with its soft lines will appeal to connoisseurs of fine furniture for the quality of its essences and its dimensionality.
