Blackened bentwood parrot coat rack, attributed to Michael Thonet, late 19th - early 20th century.
By comparison with early documentation and published examples, this model corresponds to model M.30 in the Gebrüder Thonet catalog of 1888, reproduced as model no.1 in the Thonet catalog of 1904.
It features all the characteristics of this emblematic model:
a head with eight double curved wooden pegs, a central crown forming an umbrella or rod holder, a lower section with secondary pegs and a base with four curved legs.
This type of furniture was designed for vestibules, hotels, cafés and bourgeois interiors around 1900. Today, it is an emblematic piece of bentwood furniture, particularly sought-after for its elegance and decorative presence.
