Marquetry chest bearing the signature of Léonard Boudin (1735 - 1807), a renowned Parisian cabinetmaker, who went from being a simple worker to a merchant, to become at the end of his life an important merchant in his native city. The craftsman-tradesman, who obtained his master's degree in 1761, opened his first workshop in the French capital, rue Traversière, soon after.
This piece of furniture opens with six drawers of the same dimensions, separated by dust covers. Each of them is provided with a bronze rocaille handle, original, with integrated lock entrance. The latter, functional, are all accompanied by their adjusted keys. The fronts of the drawers are made of rosewood marquetry, lemon tree fillets and violet wood frames, which are repeated on the sides and the chamfered uprights of this piece of furniture.
An authentic breccia marble of Aleppo, 3.3 cm thick, and molded in beak of corbin, covers the top of this chiffonier.
The whole rests on four small feet with discreet curves, with rosewood edges for those of the front.
The inside of the drawers and the back of the cabinet are in oak.
A Boudin stamp is unanimously recognized as a guarantee of quality and excellent workmanship. One will appreciate the harmonious proportions of this chiffonier, as well as the finesse of its design, qualities typical of the achievements of this cabinetmaker - interior decorator of taste.
