*Matthijs Horrix was The Hague's most famous cabinetmaker in the 18th century. He arrived in The Hague around 1761 and became a member of the guild of cabinetmakers there in 1764. He had his workshop in the Spuistraat. From 1770 Horrix grew in size and versatility. He could make any type of furniture needed to decorate an entire house. This was highly regarded, especially by the court of the Stadholders and his entourage, as he worked "according to the most fashionable taste in Paris".
