"Born in 1919, Roger Landault studied at the Lycée des Arts Appliqués in Paris. His career is marked by his remarkable ability to adapt: the French designer evolved with the times, moving from modern, artisanal furniture at the beginning to works in thermoformed plastic in the 70s, such as the dining tables with integrated benches called Unibloc, published by Steiner.
In 1945, he was hired at the Studium du Louvre where he was appointed artistic director. That same year, he won first prize in the Meuble de France competition. He thus attracted the attention of the A.B.C company in 1946, for whom he created several lines: reconstruction furniture with Junior (1951-1954), juxtaposable creations in solid wood with Dakar and Rotterdam (1955-1959) which earned him the Prix René-Gabriel, ranges in more diverse materials with Panama (1959-1961, see the dressing table with leather-covered doors), two lines in the Scandinavian style with Chatelaine and Rio (1960-1961). But Roger Landault also worked with other publishers such as Bouvier (see the 6517 chair, published from 1954).
Roger Landault died in 1983. »
