Elegant solid mahogany varnished screen with basket-handle curved leaves, beveled glass at the top and cream-colored line silk at the bottom. High-quality cabinetwork, particularly the double mahogany hinges and brass bushes that allow movement in both directions. (Compare with Canabas, who produced screens with similar hinges). Directoire style, late 18th or early 19th century.

Screens, as their name suggests, were used in the 18th century to protect against cold drafts when doors were opened. Ours is glazed to fulfill its purpose while still allowing light to pass through.
