Blown glass character representing a singer, originally part of a series of musicians created by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini in Murano. Italy, circa 1950.
Good condition: two small losses in the character's hair.
Fulvio Bianconi (1915-1996), first an apprentice glassmaker in Murano, began a career as a graphic designer and illustrator, always passionate about working with glass, he regularly went to Murano to document himself. There, he met Paolo Venini around 1946 and became artistic director of the Venini workshop. He used his experience as an illustrator to create in 1948, the collection of masks of the Comedia del Arte, then, until 1957, other series of characters will follow including the harlequins, the grotesques and the musicians of which the singer presented here is a part.
