Pair of Crystal and Gilt Brass Vases with Mascaron Decoration, Circa 1900
An elegant pair of clear crystal vases with ornate gilt brass mounts, dating from around 1900. Quadrangular in section, their slender bodies taper slightly towards the top. The transparency of the crystal highlights the richness of the openwork decoration and allows light to circulate among the ornaments.
Each neck is encircled by a decorative border extended by a composition of scrolls, foliage, and small mascarons. Floral garlands and cascading motifs adorn the upper part of the vases.
At the base, floral festoons connect the corner supports, embellished with roses and ribbons in relief. The whole rests on a molded gilt brass plinth, supported by four small rounded feet.
The combination of crystal and gilt mount gives this pair a luminous and refined presence. Displayed on a mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, these vases can be appreciated individually or adorned with a few long flowering stems.
Period: circa 1900.
Materials: crystal and gilt brass.
