St-Louis crystal, Thistle Gold pattern
Each piece is acid-etched "St-Louis Cristal France"
Set in perfect condition (no chips, cracks, or loss of gilding), and of exceptional quality.
The creation of a single piece requires a multitude of skills (glassmaker, engraver, gilder, etc.) combining their efforts with the sole aim of achieving excellence... anyone who loves crystal and is familiar with this model will know that they succeeded...
The first glassworks was established in 1586. In 1767, it was granted the title of Royal Glassworks of Saint Louis (in memory of Louis IX). The glassworks subsequently passed to the Lassalle family before being sold in 1788 to Baron du Coëtlosquet.
In 1781, the new Royal Glassworks of Saint-Louis were among the first on the continent to develop crystal (after England).
In 1829, the glassworks became the Compagnie des Cristalleries de Saint Louis. The crystal factory, still in operation today, was acquired in 1989 by the renowned luxury brand Hermès.
More than 2,000 exceptional pieces are displayed at the heart of the Saint-Louis factory, in a unique architectural setting designed by architects Florence Lipsky and Pascal Rollet.
This particular model was created in 1908. The thistle was the inspiration for the design of this service, specially created for the 1908 Nancy Exhibition, at the height of the Art Nouveau movement. Later, thanks to the Entente Cordiale, Chardon was anglicized to become Thistle and graced the finest tables.
