Glass paste fish in a gradient of green and blue, signed A Walter Nancy
Good overall condition, small chip on the fish's mouth and under the tail)
Art Nouveau
Amalric Walter, born in 1870, trained at the Manufacture de Sèvres, then set up his own business producing glass paste and earthenware (few examples have survived).
After the 1900 World's Fair, where he was awarded a prize, between 1905 and 1915, he collaborated with Daum and created, based on the designs of the head decorator Henri Bergé, more than a hundred Art Nouveau glass paste models (animals, floral decorations, etc.).
Having established his reputation in both Paris and Nancy, he created his own workshop and continued his work with Bergé; more than 500 models were born from their work. Because the process and technique of glass paste are complex and time-consuming, the number of copies produced is limited.
Amalric Walter closed his workshop in 1935.
