    Jean-Claude Novaro (1943-2014)

At just 14 years old, Jean-Claude Novaro joined the Biot glassworks, then managed by Eloi Monod. Since establishing his glassworks in 1956, Monod had championed an artisanal approach to glassmaking in contrast to industrial production.
Jean-Claude Novaro rose through the ranks at the Biot glassworks, becoming a master glassmaker. In 1977, he set up his own business, transitioning from artisanal work to a truly artistic endeavor.
Jean-Claude Novaro's creativity was boundless, free from any reference to the past.

Throughout his life, he constantly innovated, both in form and technique, pushing the physical and technical limits of glass to their extremes.

Jean-Claude Novaro was the first to incorporate gold and metal leaf into glass and invented luminescent glass, like an alchemist, a magician of matter.
Jean-Claude Novaro's works, each unique, embody the renewal of French glass and are featured in the world's greatest museums (notably the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York). They are also featured in exhibitions in Asia, the United Arab Emirates, Scandinavia, and elsewhere. Like Émile Gallé, Maurice Marinot, and Henri Navarre, Jean-Claude Novaro has revitalized and left his mark on 20th and 21st-century glassmaking.
