    François-Nicolas Martinet (1731-1800?) was a French engineer and engraver.

    He created engravings for numerous works on natural history, particularly ornithology.

    He worked, among other things, on Mathurin-Jacques Brisson's Ornithology (1760).
    Born in 1731, Martinet trained as an engineer and draftsman.

    Engraving was initially a secondary activity, but its growing popularity led him to make it his primary occupation.

    He engraved bird illustrations for the works of the most influential ornithologists of the 18th century.

    He notably contributed to Buffon's Natural History of Birds, engraving 1,008 illustrations.
