In this characteristic work, Arman uses one of his most emblematic motifs: the violin. A veritable fetish instrument in his artistic vocabulary, it is here magnified by the subtle contrast of black and brown, lending the composition a visual force and timeless elegance.

Arman, born Armand Fernandez on November 17, 1928 in Nice and died in New York on October 22, 2005, was a Franco-American painter, sculptor and visual artist, known for his "accumulations" and "colères". He was one of the first to use manufactured objects directly as pictorial matter, representing for him the multiple and infinite extensions of the human hand that undergo a continuous cycle of production, consumption and destruction.
