    A very fine original hand colored racing aquatint depicting a horse race taking place at full throttle in front of a large crowd and in Regency fashion. Lettered below the image with the title "RACING" and "H. Alken delt", "I. Clark Sculpt. », “London, published by T. McLean, Jany.1 1820”

    Henry Thomas Allen was a highly respected sports painter, from a large and distinguished family of sports artists.
    The print here is part of Alken's series of fifty plates recording Britain's past sporting times, mentioned in Captain Frank Siltzer's important 1929 book 'The Story of British Sporting Prints' [London, Halton & Truscott Smith, Ltd] (p.70)
