Original etching. Proof from a slightly late edition, on laid paper. Ref.: Lieure, No. 1416. Narrow margins.

"The Temptation of Saint Anthony" was illustrated twice by Jacques Callot. The first time was in Florence, around 1616. Proofs are extremely rare, as the artist accidentally destroyed his plate before truly completing it. At the end of his life, in 1635, the engraver produced a second, more elaborate and technically more rigorous version of the subject: here is a proof.
