Nice japanese print representing a Kabuki character, a samurai, identified with his name tag. Expressive faces, vivid colors and always fresh, beautiful quality of printing. Good condition, some folds and traces of crumpling. Probably by Toyohara Kunichika, Meiji era, Japan.

About Toyohara Kunichika (豊原 国周) (1835-1900): born in Edo and the son of a sentō (public bath) ruler, he was quickly considered the most talented Edo student of his time by Kunisada his teacher. It is his interest in popular Kabuki theater and his great knowledge in the field that leads him at first to treat this subject in print. He then represented Kabuki actors, but also scenes of popular plays of his time.
