André Dignimont: 1891-1965

A decorator, illustrator, painter, engraver, and actor, he is, like Toulouse Lautrec, a notable figure in Montmartre.

And like Lautrec, he specializes in the despised: ordinary people, people from the underworld, streetwalkers, whom he treats without complacency but always with love and poetry.

He associated with the greatest while remaining accessible to the youngest.

He is renowned for his light prints devoted to feminine beauty.

His work depicts life in Montmartre.

"Card Game."

A scene from 1950.

Here, it is the underworld that is represented, an "Apache" with a "flower of the pavement," easily recognizable in the outfits, makeup, accessories, physiognomy, and body positions.

Drawing and gouache.

19.80 x 24.50 cm.

Signed and dated lower right.

The plate is sold individually; there is no frame.

Good condition.
