Painter, specialist in lacquer wall decorations, Maurice Alvo participated in several group exhibitions during the 1950s, notably alongside Jean Lurçat, Roger Fumeron and Bernard Dunand. He worked for the decorator Jean Royère who notably presented his creations during an exhibition devoted to lacquer panels organized in 1956 at his Faubourg Saint-Honoré gallery in Paris. Â

In 1961, Maurice Alvo created large decorative frescoes on the theme of navigation for the entrance hall of the Tourist class of the liner France. Our panel, by its theme, its composition and its colors, is in the same stylistic vein as the monumental frescoes of the famous liner.
