Large early 20th-century peasant interior scene by Eugène Villon, signed lower left.
A mixed media technique of gouache and charcoal, protected by glass.
The whole is framed in a beautiful giltwood and stucco frame in the Regency style.
The scene is remarkable for its realism: light is diffused throughout the room thanks to the window opening onto the luminous natural surroundings.
It is this light that brings intensity to the scene, entering this modest and somber peasant interior.
Thus, the shelves laden with objects, the floor, and the table with its glass carafes come to life; each small detail is highlighted with a luminous stroke.
The seated peasant, smoking his pipe by the window, captures the present moment, bringing a great tranquility to the whole.
A peasant interior scene rendered with precision and gentleness.
Dimensions:
60 cm long x 45 cm high
