*Marguerite (Maggie) Séligmann-Lui was born on May 8, 1890 in Paris, into a Jewish intellectual bourgeois family that had been French for several centuries. Maggie studied graphic arts at the Académie de la Grande Chaumière.
She published a number of illustrated books for young people (including "La mission du biquet", published by Albin Michel in 1948) and produced beautiful images in the form of postcards and posters for publishers such as Gedalge et Bourrelier and Fernand Nathan. An exhibition devoted to Maggie Salcedo, a prolific illustrator of the art-deco years, took place at the Forney library in 2000, organized by the Mémoires d'images association. This event enabled many admirers to rediscover her work. A beautiful catalog was published for the occasion.
