Beautiful pastel signed by Delphin Enjolras depicting an elegant woman in night dress, a sweet bill in her hand, lasciviously seated on an armchair under a lighted lamp, with a pretty bouquet of hydrangeas behind her.
A glance at this pastel plunges you into the characteristic world of Delphin Enjolras (1857-1945), the most emblematic painter of the "belle époque", rightly nicknamed "the painter of reflections".
He is the painter par excellence of bourgeois interiors and exteriors, subdued lighting and luxurious fabrics.
He depicted elegant, lascivious young women, most often going about their daily business, and brought us into a rare intimacy thanks to his talent and technique, which made him a particularly appreciated and sought-after artist.
For him, women were an inexhaustible source of inspiration.
Delphin Enjolras studied with Gaston Gérard and Jean-Léon Gérôme at the Beaux Arts. From 1890 onwards, he exhibited at the most prestigious salons, where he won most of the top prizes, before joining the Société des Artistes Français in 1901.
The work is in very good condition, protected by glass and framed in gilded wood.
