Carlo Ponti (1823–1893), a Swiss-born optician and photographer, settled in Venice around 1848 where he opened an optical shop renowned for the quality of its instruments. He collaborated with several photographers and was appointed official photographer to King Victor Emmanuel II in 1866. Original photograph, not a reproduction.
