Large watercolor attributed to Willem Van Leen* depicting fruit, including plums and grapes, surrounded by roses and vine leaves, all arranged on a stone entablature that echoes the antique setting in the background. A master of flower painting, Van Leen has added drops of water to the leaves and fruit, enhancing the freshness of the subject.

*Willem Van Leen (1753-1825) was a Dutch flower painter born in Dordrecht and died in Delftshaven. A student of Jan Arends, Dirk Kuypers, and Jorias Ponse, he went to Paris in 1793, returned there in 1808, and met M. Sauvage.
The Boymans Museum in Rotterdam holds one of his works, and his paintings are well represented in major European and international collections.

The watercolor itself measures 26.7 x 34.6 cm.

It is glued at the top to a thicker, painted paper bearing Van Leen's cartouche.

Presented in its antique Louis XVI style frame bearing the label of a Parisian framer.
