This 19th-century interior scene is beautifully crafted and was painted by E. Picou.
Note signs of wear on the frame and traces of moisture in the margin; the watercolor is in good condition.
E. Picou for Eugènes Charles Picou, a painter born in 1831 in Nantes, inspired by the works of Alexandre Cabanel and also influenced by Jean-Léon Gérome in the creation of his style. His brother Henri-Pierre Picou won the Prix de Rome in 1853, and his teacher, Debret, was a student of Jacques-Louis David. He achieved a modest reputation during his lifetime at the Salon des Artistes Français. Most of his works in public collections are exhibited at the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nantes, his hometown.
