These two plates were made by Henri Chaumeil, 1877-1944, a ceramist who produced various copies imitating the Hannong production as well as that of the Manufacture des Islettes. He also produced contemporary ceramics. He studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and exhibited his works at the Salon des Artistes Indépendants, the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Artistes Décorateurs. The plates we are offering bear his "CH" mark on the reverse. One depicts a Chinese man fishing, and the other a Chinese man holding a bird on a twig. Both are contoured in the spirit of 18th-century plates and are hand-painted in polychrome.
