Exceptional set of eight ceramic panels
Manufacture de Creil et Montereau
Last quarter of the 19th century
A rare and remarkable set of eight fine glazed earthenware panels from the prestigious Manufacture de Creil et Montereau, dating from the last quarter of the 19th century. This is most likely a unique commissioned set, made especially for a Bordeaux residence, originally intended to decorate a winter garden.
Each panel is adorned with a refined, polychrome decoration depicting birds and floral compositions, each different from the next, testifying to artistic craftsmanship of the highest quality and remarkable decorative richness. The set was designed to be displayed 80 cm from the floor, so as to place the main scenes at eye level.
The panels, which have been carefully dismantled, are unique in that they were not fixed in the plaster, but were originally held in place by cabochons.
